    The award is dedicated to a doctoral dissertation developed in the field of Applied Mathematics, especially intended to reward work in which significant numerical aspects are highlighted, with the design, implementation and use of innovative numerical algorithms and techniques. The call for papers is open to scholars who have received their doctoral degree (Ph.D) within the year preceding the date of publication of the call for papers.

    The prize is named in memory of Professor Daniela di Serafino, who died prematurely in August 2022, a university professor of Numerical Analysis, first at the Department of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Campania “L. Vanvitelli” and later at the Department of Mathematics and Applications of the University of Naples Federico II. This award is intended to commemorate the commitment and passion lavished by D.d.S. in his tireless teaching research activities, and in particular his attention and dedication to young researchers.

    The initiative is proposed and supported by the Department of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Campania “L.Vanvitelli,” the Department of Mathematics and Applications “R. Caccioppoli” of the University of Naples Federico II, the Department of Mathematics of the University of Salerno, the Department of Physical, Computer and Mathematical Sciences - University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, and is sponsored by the GNCS (National Group for Scientific Computing of the INDAM institute). The relevant call for participation will be published by Mayl 2025, and the winner, who will be paid a prize of 2,500 euros, will be announced by September 2025, and invited to hold a seminar at the University of Campania “L.Vanvitelli” and (possibly) as part of the annual GNCS meeting. The evaluating committee will be composed of the Director of the Department of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Campania “L.Vanvitelli”, the director of the Department of Mathematics and Applications “R. Caccioppoli” of the University of Naples Federico II, the Director of the Department of Mathematics of the University of Salerno, the Director of the Department of Physical, Computer and Mathematical Sciences - University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (or researchers delegated by them), and a researcher appointed by GNCS.
